The Aspen Idea

Before Aspen, Colorado became an American cultural and intellectual mecca, its raw beauty captured the imagination of many including Walter Paepcke, an industrialist who co-founded the Aspen Skiing Corporation in 1946. Walter and wife Elizabeth Paepcke single handedly put the town on the map by envisioning a place where mind, body and spirit could flourish. They called it The Aspen Idea. We support The Aspen Idea and believe now more than ever it is time to rediscover the origins of this extraordinary place. In doing so, we are proud to reissue the original Aspen Leaf created by legendary Bauhaus designer Herbert Bayer. The Aspen Leaf became an icon for world-class skiing and the symbol for Aspen since its inception.

Aspen Surplus

At Aspen Surplus, we design limited run products steeped in mountain life and love of the Roaring Fork Valley. Aspen Surplus began as a dream. A dream of sharing stories from one of the most legendary ski towns in the world. We celebrate Aspen’s illustrious past, future and epic beauty, a place we first experienced in 1964.
